D2-The Machiavellian Way of Throwing Dirty Water: Why Leaders Believe It

In the long river of history, the death of Li Yan, Prince of Di, can be regarded as a strange and thought-provoking story in the court of the Tang Dynasty. Li Yan was involved in a fatal storm because of the competition for favor with his concubines, and eventually died of grief and anger. Behind this is the profound principle of Machiavellianism.
Li Yan, Prince of Di, had two concubines who were jealous of each other. One of the concubines secretly asked a wizard to write a talisman and put it in his shoes to please Li Yan. Li Yan had a conflict with the eunuch who was monitoring him. After the eunuch learned about this, he secretly reported to Xuanzong that Li Yan cursed the emperor. Xuanzong sent people to search and indeed found the talisman, and was furious. Although Li Yan claimed that he did not know, Xuanzong sent people to interrogate him and found that it was the concubine who did it, but he still suspected that Li Yan knew about it and imprisoned him in the Eagle Dog House. Li Yan eventually died of grief and anger.
